Awesome pace and race craft put Lucas P2 for the final but a rare error on the rolling lap caused him to start much further back. He climbed all the way back up to 2nd on a damp track on slicks but ran out of time to challenge for the win. Nonetheless, a great drive in preparation for the UKC!
A brilliant day for Lucas Ellingham from JDR at the 2nd round of Whilton Mill Kart Club yesterday, in a day fraught with squally downpours and high winds. Heat 1 from pole Lucas Ellingham drove away from the field to win with a sizeable gap. Heat 2 had him placed P14 in a mid-grid position but with his usual determination he picked off each of the karts ahead of him to come home in P2. Heat 3 saw Lucas start P29 in a grid of 32 karts. Unphased and in heavy rain he once again began the task of homing in and overtaking the driver in front of him until crossing the line P6. Unfortunately, he was given a five-second dropped faring penalty which put him one place back to P7 and losing pole position for the final.
The Final was a kart prep lottery, with damp conditions and the promise of more rain, the Jack Dex Racing team chose to go with slicks, as did most teams. From P2 and on a wet surface Lucas made an uncharacteristic error, he spun on the warmup lap and had to let the karts following through before he could turn. A disaster taking him from the front to the rear of a rolling start. However, this is Lucas Ellingham, racing is his forte and so he began the natural response of fighting his way to the front of the pack.
After a brilliant drive, in very testing track conditions, Lucas Ellingham crossed the finish line just 2.3 seconds behind the winner to claim his second WMKC podium position.
