The previous WSK race in Sarno was very challenging to enter the new season with new technology and very important for Max to gain the necessary experience. Another race of the 2022 season was the first round of the German DKM Championship, on the well-known track in Kerpen. This track was the home of the famous Formula 1 racer Michael Schumacher…
On Friday morning, six official practice sessions took place, where Max got acquainted with the new track and the mechanics with the new go-kart settings. The weather was not very good, it was very cold, in addition to rain, even snow flew. Friday was marked by all-day training in a total of six races of 15 minutes each. Max’s acquaintance with the track was in full swing, because he had never before driven in Kerpen. The surface of the track was constantly changing, which was not easy for the mechanics, but in the end the setup of the equipment was successful both wet and dry. “The track is interesting and demanding in terms of curbing,” Max said, “a bit like our Písek.” Also, watching the other categories helped Max a lot and on Friday evening the team was in a good mood and atmosphere. And everything was ready.
On Saturday, one free practice took place on the track around the snow, during the night from Friday to Saturday it froze and snow fell, which was an unpleasant surprise for everyone. In timed practice, Max set 14th time overall and finished 14th in the first race.. In the second race he moved to P12. And a very cold Saturday was over.
On Sunday morning, the weather improved a lot and warmed. In the early warm-up, Max tested the technique and everything, including his enthusiasm, seemed to be fine. In the first race, Max fought his way to P8 after start, but unfortunately immediately after that the engine stopped working. Thus ended the race for Max. In the second race, the engine was repaired and the start from the last place with the words of Max that he will go forward was really successful. Max was satisfied with his P8 at finish line.
We are looking forward to the next race, this time on the circuit in Cheb at the Czech Kart Open.
