It’s been a hectic few weeks of racing for DJB87 Motorsport and the TCB Motorsport team. Last week was the Bay of Plenty Round of the prestigious Prokart Series. Dylan qualified the MS Kart Mini Blue Kite with the Rocketship TCB Motorsport powerplant on P2 for all the heats.
Dylan finished 3rd in heat 1, 1st in heat 2, 8th in heat 3 and 3rd in heat 4 to put the kart on pole for the Pre-Final. Dylan drove an epic race with a few lead changes, Once settled into a rhythm, he made his move for the lead on the penultimate lap and held it to take a fantastic win. Starting the 25-lap final on pole, our hopes for a victory were high. Unfortunately, on lap five another driver crashed into the side of him, running him off the track and damaging his chassis. Dylan showed great courage, and with sore ribs he pushed his kart back onto the track and complete all 25 laps of the race. A very tough weekend, but the whole package had the pace, we move onto the next meeting knowing that.
Last weekend DJB87 Motorsport and the TCB Motorsport team took a road trip to Kartsport Taranaki. A track we had never visited before. This time Phil (Dylan’s Father) also took his MS Kart Blue Falcon down for a skid.
On Saturday’s practice we quickly got to grips with the track, looking at previous meeting results our times were spot on where they needed to be. A very cold start to Sunday and we were all ready for some fast racing. Dylan drove the mighty TCB Motorsport powered Mini Blue from a random grid draw to 4 wins and a second in the 5 races, setting the fastest lap in 2 of the 5 races. He never made a mistake all day, and the kart was on point. It was a great result and helped put the disappointment of the last meeting behind us. Dylan’s Father Phil had a mixed bag of results in the largest field of the meeting, 18 Raket 120 drivers took to the track and in the 1st race Phil drove an impressive race, starting 17th and finishing in 5th. Heat 2 was unfortunately a DNF but quickly followed up with a 4th place finish in Heat 3. Heat 4 we had a small engine issue that stopped Phil from making the start, after a quick TCB tune up Phil went out in the final starting 11th and made his way up to finish in 7th and until the final lap he held the fasted lap time on track. We are now all looking forward to the New Zealand Schools Championships in July.
