The first weekend of May saw the German Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft round at Mülsen. Decent weather, a full grid and exceptionally aggressive racing throughout the weekend. For the three MS KART drivers in KZ2 it was a difficult weekend, and unfortunately none of them made it through to the final.
Filip Vloch opened the weekend with P39 in qualifying and then ran P22, P14 and P17 in the heats. The kart was working fine, but Filip was missing the outright pace all weekend and had to fight for every position. In superheat A he added P18, but a penalty for unsporting driving closed the door to the final.
Lucie Zimmelová started from P44 and worked her way forward in the heats with P15, P16 and P16, leaving her in a good spot to advance. Then came the turning point in superheat A. Two drivers collided in front of her, Lucie went around the contact, but one of them, who had launched off the track, came back across at full speed and hit her hard from the side. The kart was thrown into the air and luckily landed on the gravel, which absorbed a lot of the impact. The race ended in DNF and she missed advancing to the final by a single position. Awful luck.
Matyáš Kučera had good pace throughout the weekend and closed qualifying in P28. In the first heat the gear shifter broke off the chassis and he didn't finish. He took P15 in race two, and in race three he made an excellent start from P14 up to P7 before being sent over the kerb in turn four and ending in DNF. He finished superheat in P17, which wasn't enough to make the final. The pace was solid, he was only two tenths off the leader.
Thanks to all the drivers, mechanics, partners, families and to Machac Motors for the engines.
